Released on January 7, 2026, MODA by Japanese electronic artist Nobutaka Soeda arrives as a strikingly conceptual work that feels less like an album to be played and more like an atmosphere to inhabit. Inspired by the refined philosophy of Milanese fashion, Soeda describes MODA as “fashion you can hear,” where sound becomes texture, silhouette, and presence.
Drawing on impressions from Milan Fashion Week, the record translates the language of tailoring and design into electronic composition. Rhythmic echoes of footsteps on cobblestones, light filtering through historic architecture, and the poised elegance of urban space at dusk shape a sound world that feels both minimal and emotionally resonant. The music is urban yet warm, structured yet quietly expressive.
A standout single from the album, “Rosso Silenzio,” is now being played on our A-List Playlist for the next month and featured as a special Powerplay at 6:30 PM Eastern USA time, bringing Soeda’s refined sonic aesthetic to listeners worldwide.
Rather than inviting passive listening, Soeda envisions MODA as something to be worn in everyday life. It is music that moves with the listener through morning light, city nights, and intimate interiors. In this conversation, he reflects on translating fashion into sound, the aesthetics behind the project, and the idea of music as a borderless form of expression.

The Aesthetics of Wearing Sound MODA
Q. What aesthetic vision gave birth to MODA?
I was captivated by the quiet nobility that defines the city of Milan. What I experienced during Milan Fashion Week was not merely the unveiling of trends, but fashion as philosophy.
The sharpened silhouettes, the calculated negative space, the tension held within each presence, I wanted to reconstruct that atmosphere through electronic sound.
Q. How do you approach expressing “fashion” through sound?
Fashion is self expression. It is proof of one’s existence. Music is the same.
For this project, I approached it as designing sound. Selecting materials, layering textures, refining surfaces, even imagining how light would fall upon them.
The rhythm of heels striking cobblestone, light filtering through historic architecture, the density of air at dusk, I stitched these distinctly Milanese textures into electronic tones.
Q. Could you describe the overall mood of the work?
Urban, yet never cold.
It is about balancing refinement with resonance.
Within sharpness, there is softness. Within minimal structures, emotional depth quietly resides.
Perhaps it is like a perfectly tailored jacket, whose understated lining reveals a subtle touch of playfulness.
Q. How would you like listeners to receive the album?
Not as something to simply listen to, but as something to wear.
Moments in everyday life can become your personal runway.
Morning light, the city at night, the stillness of a quiet room, I hope the music blends into those spaces while gently elevating the presence of the person within them.
If MODA can feel like a garment that accompanies the year 2026, I would be deeply happy.
Q. How do you feel about being featured in international media?
I believe aesthetics transcend borders.
Music, too, is an expression beyond language.
If this work quietly resonates with someone, somewhere in the world, there could be no greater joy.
